Dudipatsar, Alpine lake in Kaghan Valley, Pakistan
Dudipatsar is an alpine lake in Kaghan Valley situated at roughly 3,800 meters elevation. The water body receives feed from glacial streams and rests below steep mountain peaks that tower above 4,800 meters.
The lake became harder to reach following the 2005 earthquake, prompting Pakistan to upgrade infrastructure across the Kaghan Valley. These improvements starting in 2006 changed how visitors could access the area.
Local cattle herders maintain their traditional summer residences near the lake, continuing generations-old practices in the mountain landscapes.
The trek to the lake starts from Besal and covers roughly 18 kilometers with several water crossings to navigate. The route involves steep climbs and demands solid physical fitness plus proper footwear for rough terrain.
The water displays a striking greenish-blue tint caused by glacial sediment carried in the incoming streams. This coloring sets it apart from other lakes in the surrounding area.
