Pieniny National Park, National park in Szczawnica, Poland

The national park extends for 35 kilometers in length and 6 kilometers in width, forming a distinct mountain range between the Carpathian Mountains.

The park originated in 1921 as a private reserve around Czorsztyn Castle ruins before its official establishment as a national park in 1932.

Traditional wooden boats operated by raftsmen navigate through the Dunajec River gorge, connecting Polish and Slovak territories within the park.

Entry to the park remains free, with fees only applicable for accessing Trzy Korony and Sokolica peaks between April 20 and October 31.

The park forms part of a 550-kilometer-long rock belt that separates the outer flysch Carpathians from the inner crystalline Carpathian Mountains.
