Gmina Łysomice, Administrative district in Toruń County, Poland.
Gmina Łysomice is a rural municipality in Toruń County, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region of northern Poland, made up of several villages and hamlets scattered across the countryside around the city of Toruń. The municipal office, based in the village of Łysomice, oversees local administration for all the settlements within its boundaries.
The municipality took its current form through Poland's administrative reorganizations of the 20th century, which grouped the rural villages around Toruń into a single local unit. As Toruń expanded over the following decades, some of the villages in the area became closely tied to the city's economic life.
The Dożynki harvest festival, held each late summer, is a moment when residents from the scattered villages gather to mark the end of the farming season. Food, music and local crafts come together in a way that reflects how farming still shapes daily life here.
Most of the villages in the municipality are easiest to reach by car, as a network of local roads connects them to each other and to Toruń. Local bus lines also link the main villages to the city, though services can be less frequent in smaller settlements.
Within the municipality's boundaries sits the Piwnice Astronomical Observatory, which belongs to Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and houses one of the largest radio telescopes in Poland. The observatory occasionally opens to school groups and curious visitors, making it possible to step inside an active research site in the middle of the countryside.
