Zoo Gdańsk

The Zoologischer Garten Danzig is a large park facility in the Oliwa area that houses animals from different continents and climates. The grounds feature separate enclosures and habitats designed to accommodate various species, from mammals to birds and reptiles.

The facility was established in 1954, starting with donated animals from local residents before expanding into a more comprehensive collection. Over the following decades, it grew into an institution with scientific and conservation goals.

The zoo participates in breeding and conservation programs that help protect endangered animals from around the world. Visitors can observe how modern facilities work to save species facing threats in their natural habitats.

The zoo is situated within a protected landscape area and can be reached by public transportation and explored on foot. Wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time to visit, as the grounds cover a substantial area.

It is one of only a few places in Europe where you can observe orangutans, and it houses the largest group of Humboldt penguins in the country. These two animal groups represent highlights of any visit and showcase the range of wildlife on display.
