Schronisko PTTK "Na Szczelińcu", Mountain hut in Stołowe Mountains, Poland.
Szczeliniec-Hütte is a mountain hut in the Stołowe Mountains of southwestern Poland, sitting at 905 meters at the entrance to the Szczeliniec Wielki nature reserve. It accommodates around 50 guests and stands at the junction of marked hiking trails with yellow and blue route markings.
The hut opened in 1845, making it one of the oldest mountain shelters in this part of the Sudetes. For decades it served travelers crossing what was then known as the Heuscheuergebirge, long before the area became a protected reserve.
The hut sits at the entrance to the Szczeliniec Wielki nature reserve and is the natural first stop before hikers enter the rocky maze above. Visitors can experience the everyday rhythm of a Polish mountain refuge, with groups resting on benches and trail maps spread out on tables.
The hut is open year-round and offers accommodation in every season. The ridge location means weather can shift quickly, so carrying a rain layer and sturdy footwear is a good habit regardless of the forecast.
Just behind the hut, a steep staircase leads down into Piekiełko, a gorge whose name means 'little hell' in Polish. The passage is so narrow in places that outstretched arms can touch both rock walls at the same time.
