Zimna Dziura, Natural cave in Gmina Lubień, Poland
Zimna Dziura is a cave located in the Beskid Wyspowy mountains with a vertical depth of about 5 meters and length of about 25 meters. The entrance opens into a straightforward cave passage carved through limestone rock.
The cave has been known to local people for generations and is surrounded by folklore about hidden treasures. Such stories have shaped the way communities relate to natural landmarks in mountain areas over time.
The name Zimna Dziura means Cold Hole and comes from the natural accumulation of cold air that occurs inside during winter. Visitors can immediately sense how much cooler the interior feels compared to outside.
The path to the cave begins at St. John the Baptist Church in Lubień and follows marked trails through the mountains. The walk takes several hours with considerable elevation gain, so visitors should wear good hiking shoes and prepare for physical exertion.
Snow and ice can remain inside through late spring, which creates a natural cooling effect within the rock. This phenomenon allows rare mosses and alpine plants to thrive in this cold environment.
