Poor Clares' Church

Poor Clares' Church is a brick structure on Gdańska Street featuring a tall tower topped with a baroque spire. The interior showcases sturdy vaulted chancel and an ornate wooden ceiling, creating an integrated architectural composition.

Brick construction began in 1582, replacing a wooden church-hospital from 1448. The building was officially given to the Poor Clares sisters in 1615 and later served non-religious purposes for several decades.

The interior features painted wooden ceilings with religious themes and artworks like Leon Wyczółkowski's image of St Stanislaus Kostka that reflect the community's spiritual life. These artistic elements shape the atmosphere and show how the space has been used for worship and devotion.

The church is located near Kazimierz Wielki Park and easy to reach in the city center. Regular services take place inside, so visitors should check opening times before arriving to ensure access to the interior.

Between 1835 and 1920, the building was repurposed for different uses including a warehouse and fire station. It also housed the city's first museum during this unexpected chapter of its story.
