Regional Museum in Bydgoszcz

The Regional Museum occupies a former monastery building on Gdanska Street and displays art, archaeology, and historical objects from this region. The main building connects to restored granaries along the Brda river, where additional exhibitions are held.

The museum grew out of a historical society founded in 1880 and officially opened in 1923 under the direction of Father Jan Klein. After this founding, the collection expanded through various donations, including major artworks from the 20th century.

The museum holds works that show how people in this region lived and worked. The collection tells the story of crafts, clothing, and everyday items that shaped life here across generations.

The museum sits in central Bydgoszcz and is easy to reach on foot. Exhibition spaces are spread across different buildings, so you should expect a short walk between the main building and the granary exhibitions by the river.

During World War II, the museum staff carried out a large-scale rescue operation to protect valuable holdings from destruction and theft. This hidden collection was later recovered and became the foundation of the museum's collection today.
