The Regional Museum occupies a former monastery building at 4 Gdańska Street, featuring Neo-Renaissance and Mannerism architectural elements from 1878 renovations.
The museum originated from the Historical Society of the Noteć Region in 1880, officially opening in 1923 under the direction of Father Jan Klein.
The institution houses collections spanning archaeology, industrial architecture, ethnography, and graphics, with 942 works donated by artist Leon Wyczółkowski in 1937.
Located in central Bydgoszcz, the museum operates multiple exhibition spaces, including restored granaries along the Brda river for temporary and permanent displays.
During World War II, the museum staff orchestrated an extensive evacuation operation to protect valuable exhibits from potential destruction and theft.
