Pantheon of the House of Braganza, Royal mausoleum in São Vicente de Fora Monastery, Lisbon, Portugal.
The Pantheon of the House of Braganza is a royal mausoleum inside São Vicente de Fora Monastery in Lisbon, Portugal. Marble boxes line the sides, each holding space for four tombs marked by gold-engraved crowns indicating the monarchs.
Ferdinand II of Portugal converted the former monastery refectory into this burial site. Most members of the Braganza dynasty found their final resting place here.
The central aisle holds the tombs of Carlos I, his son Prince Luís Filipe, Manuel II, and Queen Amélie. Their placement together marks the final chapter of Portuguese royal history.
The site offers guided tours in several languages for groups of 5 to 30 people. Entrance fees vary depending on age category.
The mausoleum served temporarily as a resting place for international royalty, including members of the Brazilian and Romanian monarchies. These temporary burials link the site to royal lines beyond Portuguese borders.
