Teatro Garcia de Resende, Neoclassical theater in Évora, Portugal
The Garcia de Resende Theater features a horseshoe-shaped main room decorated with classical figures of Music, Dance, Comedy, and Literature painted by João Vaz.
Construction of the theater started in October 1881 under José Ramalho Dinis Perdigão, and after his death in 1884, his widow continued the work until completion in 1890.
The theater maintains its position in the European Route of Historic Theatres and houses CENDREV, the Dramatic Center of Évora, which manages cultural programming.
The theater offers different seating arrangements across multiple levels, with boxes for upper-class patrons and separate areas for middle and lower-class audiences.
The interior of the theater displays paintings and contemporary sculptures, including an artwork by João Cutileiro in the ornate foyer.
