Maciço Montanhoso Central da Ilha da Madeira

The Central Mountain Massif extends across 62 square kilometers of land, featuring endemic flora species and diverse ecological habitats across different altitudes.

The mountain range received its designation as a Special Area of Conservation in 2009 after being proposed as a Site of Community Importance in 1995.

The mountain massif contains 34 protected species under Nature Directives, including the rare Anthyllis lemanniana plant found exclusively in this region.
