Zambaccian Museum, Art museum in Dorobanți, Romania
The Zambaccian Museum is an art collection displayed in a former private residence in the Dorobanți neighborhood, housing more than 300 objects including paintings, sculptures, prints, and furniture. The rooms retain the character of a personal collection gathered within a lived-in space.
The collection began as the personal gathering of art collector Krikor Zambaccian, who assembled works over many years. After the political changes of 1989, the collection returned to the original house in 1992 following forced removal during the earlier regime.
The collection gathers works by Romanian painters like Nicolae Grigorescu and Ioan Andreescu alongside French masters such as Cézanne, Picasso, and Matisse. Visitors can see how Romanian and French artistic traditions relate to each other through these pieces.
The building is located on Muzeul Zambaccian Street and welcomes visitors from Wednesday through Sunday. The rooms are modestly sized, so take your time to look at each piece without feeling rushed.
The museum holds the only painting by Paul Cézanne located in Romania. This makes it a remarkable destination for art lovers seeking to see a rare work by this major French master in Eastern Europe.
