Saint Spyridon Church, Iași, Romanian Orthodox church in Independenței Boulevard, Iași, Romania.
Saint Spyridon Church is an Orthodox church building on Independenței Boulevard in Iași with a rectangular layout, a central nave, and two smaller side naves. Inside, detailed frescoes of the Four Evangelists appear beneath the cupola alongside decorative marble elements throughout the interior.
The building was constructed between 1752 and 1758 with funds from boyar Ștefan Bosie and later faced serious damage from an earthquake. After the 1802 disaster, reconstruction efforts in 1807 restored it to working condition.
The walls inside hold religious paintings created by artist Eustație Altini, who worked on the marble details and decorated the iconostasis during renovation work in 1863.
The building stands at 1 Independenției Boulevard and remains an active house of worship, so visitors can enter during posted hours to observe its architecture and artwork. Remember to dress modestly and behave respectfully, as it is a working religious space.
Twin fountains with inscriptions in Greek, Ottoman Turkish, and Romanian Cyrillic were installed in 1765, tapping into water sources that flowed from what is now the Botanical Garden. These multilingual fountains reflect the diverse communities and water systems that shaped the city centuries ago.
