Pădurea Mociar, Nature reserve in Mureș County, Romania.
Pădurea Mociar is a nature reserve covering about 48 hectares at the base of the Gurghiu Mountains with centuries-old oak trees across varied terrain. The forest spreads over hillsides and valleys with dense growth of different tree species.
The area gained official protected status in 2000 under Romanian law. This recognition made it a protected area in the IUCN Category IV classification.
The forest sits near remains from Roman and medieval times that visitors can discover while walking through the area. These archaeological traces show how people have lived and used this land over many centuries.
You can reach the forest via the county road DJ153C connecting Reghin and Hodac, and via the national road DN16. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is hilly and paths can get muddy after rain.
The oak trees here are between 400 and 500 years old, making this one of the region's oldest forests. Scientists use these ancient trees to study forest history and climate changes over many centuries.
