Stopića Cave, Natural monument cave in Zlatibor Mountain, Serbia.
Stopića Cave is a limestone cave beneath Zlatibor Mountain with a grand entrance measuring 18 meters high and 35 meters wide. The cave system stretches approximately 1700 meters into the mountain and contains multiple chambers with pools and underground water features.
The cave served as shelter for local residents during the First Serbian Uprising who needed to hide from advancing Ottoman forces. This use as a refuge shows the site's strategic importance during turbulent periods of regional history.
Musical performances happen regularly inside, taking advantage of how the limestone and flowing water carry and amplify sound naturally.
Plan your visit during warmer months when the cave stays open longer and conditions inside are more comfortable. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a jacket since temperatures drop significantly underground and some pathways are wet and slippery.
Inside are natural limestone tubs reaching depths of up to seven meters, with water continuously flowing and cascading over sloped rock surfaces into deeper sections. These waterfalls and terraced formations were carved over thousands of years by dripping and flowing water.
