Krasnovishersk is a small town on the western slopes of the Northern Urals with the Vishera river flowing through it. The streets show old wooden houses alongside modern buildings, and the town maintains a quiet, simple character throughout the day.
The town developed from a small settlement called Vizhaikha starting in the 1930s around a paper mill established that year. It received official city status in 1942 and carries a complex past linked to nearby labor camps.
