Novouralsk, Industrial city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.
Novouralsk is an industrial city in the Novouralsk Urban Okrug in Russia, spreading across several valleys along the eastern slopes of the Ural Mountains. The city connects residential districts with industrial areas through a network of roads that run through wooded sections and open spaces at around 300 meters (980 feet) elevation.
The settlement began in 1941 during World War II as a small industrial site in what was then a remote part of the Ural region. Over the following decades, it grew into an independent administrative center within Sverdlovsk Oblast.
Residents gather in the community centers and parks that serve as natural meeting points for families and neighbors throughout the year. The city's name reflects its position near the Ural Mountains and its identity as a newer settlement in this region, evident in how industrial work blends with everyday routines.
Visitors should be aware that the city is a closed area and requires special access permits that need to be arranged in advance. The main roads are well maintained, but winter months bring regular snowfall and lower temperatures.
The city was originally established as a secret project without an official name and did not appear on public maps for many years. Despite its industrial character, there are numerous green spaces designed as buffer zones between factory grounds and residential neighborhoods.
