Kirillov's house, Folk art residence in Kunara, Russia
Kirillov's house is a wooden residential structure in Kunara decorated with intricate metal and wood embellishments covering its exterior. The building features carved ornaments and painted details in various colors that adorn nearly every visible surface.
A blacksmith named Sergey Kirillov began transforming the house in 1954 and worked on its decorations for approximately three decades. After taking over his father's trade following World War II, he eventually applied his metalworking skills to create the elaborate exterior.
The house blends traditional Russian architectural elements with Soviet-era symbols, including sculptures of young Pioneers and messages about peace carved into its surface. These decorative choices reflect the values and style of a particular historical period.
The house is located in Sverdlovsk region and has been recognized as a cultural heritage site. Visitors should allow enough time to examine the detailed embellishments across the entire exterior facade.
Volunteers from Yekaterinburg assisted with restoration of the house's decorations in 2012. Their work helped preserve the craftsmanship that had developed over more than two decades.
