Perm Oblast, Former administrative region in Volga Federal District, Russia.
Perm Oblast was an administrative region in western Russia that served as an important center for industry and education within the Volga Federal District. The territory bordered the Komi Republic, Sverdlovsk Oblast, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Udmurt Republic, and Kirov Oblast.
The region was established in 1938 as part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and was renamed Molotov Oblast from 1940 to 1957. In 2005, it merged with the Komi-Permyak Autonomous Okrug to form the new administrative entity of Perm Krai.
The administrative center Perm housed numerous educational institutions, including the Perm State University, established in 1916 for academic research and development.
The region was well connected through the Trans-Siberian Railway and Bolshoye Savino International Airport, facilitating trade and travel with other Russian territories. These transportation links made movement across the broader region relatively straightforward for the time.
In 2005, Perm Oblast merged with the Komi-Permyak Autonomous Okrug to form a new administrative entity called Perm Krai.
