Zapovednik Gydansky, Protected area in Tazovsky District, Russia.
Gydansky Protected Area covers 878,174 hectares of arctic terrain on the Gyda Peninsula and islands in the Kara Sea of Western Siberia.
The reserve started operations in 2001 after its establishment in 1996, following discussions from the 1970s about creating conservation areas in the region.
The territory holds scientific value for studying arctic ecosystems, including 180 bird species, 180 vascular plants, and distinct reindeer populations.
Access to the reserve requires special arrangements through the main office in Taz Village, as the area lacks roads and visitor facilities.
The reserve contains flat plains, wetlands, and arctic desert landscapes where temperatures average -10 degrees Celsius with 240 days of snow cover.
