White Swan, Supermax prison in Solikamsk, Russia.
The White Swan is a maximum-security prison facility in Solikamsk featuring multiple cell blocks arranged within a secure perimeter. The structure divides inmates into separate zones based on custody level and behavioral classification.
This facility was established in 1938 originally housing political prisoners during the Soviet period. After 1955 it converted to hold individuals convicted of the most serious crimes.
The prison earned its name from either its white exterior walls or from the specific way inmates must walk with their heads down while being escorted.
This is a functioning maximum-security facility not open to visitors. The grounds can only be viewed from outside, and public access to operations is not permitted.
The facility employs a specialized system of psychological evaluation to determine cell roommates based on compatibility. This was an innovative practice in Russian corrections when it was introduced.
