Kinoteatr Burevestnik, Movie theater in central Rostov-on-Don, Russia
Kinoteatr Burevestnik was a movie theater situated at the intersection of Bolshaya Sadovaya Street and Voroshilovsky Prospekt in the heart of Rostov-on-Don. The venue contained multiple screening rooms designed to show films and host cultural events for the community.
The building originated as the Melkonov-Yezekov House with a cinema called Kolizey, but was renamed Sverdlov following the October Revolution. It continued to operate as a cultural venue for many decades before being transferred to Southern Federal University in 2008.
The cinema's name comes from a ship in a classic Russian children's book, connecting the space to local literary traditions and imagination. For decades, it served as a gathering point for film lovers and cultural figures in the city.
The building stands near Sovetskaya Square and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. Since it now serves as a university building, public access inside is limited, though the historic exterior facade remains visible from the street.
Poet Sergei Yesenin performed a poetry reading here in 1920, commemorated by a plaque mounted on the building's exterior. This event links the cinema to a major figure in Russian literary history.
