Долматово, human settlement in Sudislavsky District, Kostroma Oblast, Russia
Dolmatovo is an estate complex in Kostroma Oblast featuring a stone manor house built in classical style as its centerpiece. Surrounding the main building are wooden outbuildings, landscaped grounds with ponds, and sloping terrain leading down to the Poksha River floodplain.
Settlement on this site dates to the 12th century, but the estate took its current form through the Golovtsyn family starting in the 16th century, followed by the Meshcherskys and Ermolovs. The existing stone manor was built in the 19th century when the Ermolov family redesigned the property.
The name Dolmatovo comes from settlers who established themselves here during the 16th century. Today it remains a quiet place where the buildings and gardens speak of the families who lived and worked on these lands.
Access is from Kostroma via route R-243, roughly one hour's drive through quiet rural roads lined with forests. Arrive early to explore the buildings and grounds thoroughly, as the site offers much to see in the landscape and park areas.
Excavations in 2013 uncovered ceramic fragments from the 16th century and clay bricks from the 18th century beneath the current house. These discoveries reveal that people lived and built on this site centuries before the noble families established their estate here.
