Church of the Theotokos of the Sign

The Church of the Theotokos of the Sign is a brick building featuring Neo-Byzantine elements including characteristic domes and crosses that shape the city's skyline. The structure was designed to accommodate up to 1000 worshippers and remains an important religious venue in the area.

The building was constructed in 1903 by the Terek Cossack Army to commemorate the 300-year history of the Romanov dynasty. Following the Soviet period, when it served as a warehouse, the structure underwent restoration and has since returned to its original religious purpose.

The church serves the local Orthodox community through its regular religious services and ceremonies that continue today. It remains a gathering place where people practice their faith and connect with traditional Eastern Christian customs.

The church is located at Totorbieva Street 121 and remains open for services throughout the year. Visitors should respect it as an active place of worship and follow local customs regarding dress and conduct.

The structure was designed by civil engineer Ivan Vasilievich Ryabikin and stands as the largest Orthodox church in the entire North Caucasus region. Its architectural prominence made it a remarkable religious building of its era.
