Feodosiĭskiĭ muzeĭ drevnosteĭ, Archaeological museum in Feodosia, Russia.
The Feodosiĭskiĭ muzeĭ drevnosteĭ is an archaeological museum in the center of Feodosia, in southeastern Crimea, holding artifacts from the prehistoric period through the medieval era and into more recent centuries. The collection covers stone monuments, ceramics, coins, and personal objects found across the surrounding region.
The museum was founded in 1811 when the city acquired a merchant's private collection of antiquities, making it one of the oldest museums in Crimea. It expanded steadily as new excavations and donations added material from across the region.
The museum displays objects from the era when the city was known as Kaffa, a busy trading port on the Black Sea. Coins and everyday items from that period give visitors a direct sense of what life looked like in a medieval merchant city.
The museum sits in the center of Feodosia and is easy to reach on foot from most parts of the city. The collection covers several rooms, so it is worth setting aside a good portion of the day for the visit.
The museum has an outdoor courtyard where stone inscriptions and burial markers from several different peoples are displayed in the open air. This section can be visited separately from the indoor rooms and offers a different way to move through the collection.
