Nikolsky Garden

Nikolsky Garden is a green space beside the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral with walkways and seating areas for strolling. The grounds feature several monuments and memorial sites dedicated to sailors and naval history.

The garden was founded in 1874 as part of the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral complex, which served as a shrine for Russian naval forces. An obelisk was added in 1908 to commemorate a major naval battle and those who fell in it.

The garden holds deep meaning for those who honor Russian naval history, visible through the monuments and plaques scattered throughout the grounds. These memorials serve as places where visitors come to remember those lost at sea.

The site is open year-round and pairs well with a visit to the adjacent naval cathedral nearby. The grounds are open to the elements, so it's most pleasant to visit during warmer months when you can comfortably walk around.

The garden holds memorial plaques for crews of Soviet submarines, including vessels lost in deep-sea disasters. These plaques mark tragic events that occurred decades after the war ended.
