Blekinge, Administrative division in southeastern Sweden

Blekinge is an administrative region along Sweden's southeastern coast with forests, lakes, and islands scattered throughout. Oak woodlands dominate the inland areas while the shoreline features numerous bays and waterways.

This territory was part of Denmark until 1658 when the Treaty of Roskilde transferred it to Sweden. The transfer prompted development of Karlskrona as a major military naval facility.

The maritime traditions here show in how people live along the coast and use the harbors. Fishing communities and shipyards remain central to how locals connect with their surroundings.

The region's five municipalities are well connected by rail and roads to other Swedish cities. Accommodations and services are distributed across different towns throughout the area.

The current boundaries of this region align precisely with the historical borders of the old province from centuries past. This makes it one of the rare places in Sweden where modern administrative lines match ancient provincial divisions.
