Södermanlands-Nerikes nation, Student nation at Uppsala University, Sweden
Södermanlands-Nerikes nation is a student residence building at Uppsala University featuring neo-Renaissance architecture with a distinctive round tower and multiple facades. The complex includes dining facilities, event spaces, and a library housing a historical book collection from the 17th century.
The nation was founded in 1595 and grew substantially after merging with Nerikes nation in 1805. This union of two independent student communities shaped its development into the institution it is today.
The nation serves as a gathering place where students participate in choir performances, theater productions, and social events that shape campus life. These regular activities create a shared space for connection and cultural expression among members.
The nation is located in the Triangeln block and provides accommodation in approximately 300 rooms and about 80 apartments. Visitors should note that only members have full access to all facilities, and opening times may vary depending on events.
The property includes Backmanska huset, a wooden structure from the early 1600s that ranks among the oldest timber buildings in the city. This historic house continues to serve as student accommodation, blending everyday life with architectural heritage.
