Gimmersta herrgård, Manor estate in Katrineholm Municipality, Sweden.
Gimmersta herrgård is a classical-style manor house with four separate wings and balanced architecture in southern Sweden. The building features a wrought iron gate bearing the Bonde family coat of arms and is surrounded by agricultural outbuildings, large barns, and a yellow-plastered stable with a clock dating from 1674.
The estate was first recorded in 1262 under the name Gymbristada when owned by Filip Elofsson and later came under the control of several noble families. The Ryning and Ribbling families left their mark during their periods of ownership.
The estate demonstrates how Swedish noble families lived and managed their lands during different periods. The buildings and layout show the daily workings of a manor household and its agricultural operations.
The exterior of the estate is viewable from the grounds, allowing visitors to see the main building, gate, and outbuildings in their setting. The rural location provides a peaceful visit away from urban crowds and noise.
An orangery built during the early 1800s still stands on the grounds, reflecting the taste of wealthy landowners for exotic plants and greenhouse cultivation. The remnants of an English-style garden that once stretched between the avenue and lake hint at a more formal landscaping period.
