Mladika

Mladika is a building complex from around 1906-1907 consisting of two connected structures with white facades and red brick elements throughout. The complex features decorative stucco floral motifs and a distinctive clock turret above the main entrance that defines its appearance.

The complex was constructed between 1906 and 1907, shortly after the 1895 Ljubljana earthquake. It originally served as a girls' secondary school and boarding facility before its function changed over time.

The buildings display educational symbols such as owl sculptures representing wisdom and a relief showing four girls with coats of arms created by Ivan Zajec. These artistic elements shape how the complex looks and tell visitors about its original purpose as a school.

The complex sits at the intersection of Preseren and Subic Streets in central Ljubljana and is easy to locate. The buildings are visible from street level, making it simple to admire the architectural details from outside.

The clock turret construction blends modernist elements with local building styles and serves as a distinctive landmark in central Ljubljana. This combination makes the turret an overlooked architectural detail that rewards closer examination.
