Tivoli City Park, Urban park in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Tivoli City Park is an urban green space in Ljubljana that spans several square kilometers and connects the city center with the forested slopes of Roznik hill. Ponds, tree-lined paths, and open grass areas run throughout the grounds, creating a layered landscape for various activities.
A French engineer named Jean Blanchard designed the park in 1813, following French garden principles. He combined gardens from two existing Ljubljana mansions into a single connected green space.
The Jakopic Promenade hosts large-format photography exhibitions, while Tivoli Mansion houses the International Centre of Graphic Arts collection. These two spaces give the park a cultural presence that blends outdoor walks with indoor art experiences.
The park has an extensive network of paths suited for running, walking, and biking, with bicycle rentals available at multiple points. Wear sturdy shoes since some trails are hilly, especially if you venture into the forested sections.
The park contains a protected tropical greenhouse next to a fish pond, both from the 1800s and still working for visitors today. These structures show how the grounds once served as a place to grow exotic plants from distant regions.
