Tivoli Castle, Manor house in Rožnik District, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Tivoli Castle is a white manor house at the end of Jakopič Promenade in Tivoli Park, Ljubljana. Its facade follows a Neoclassical style with evenly spaced windows and restrained decorative details.
The current building was constructed in the 17th century on the site of a Renaissance fortress that was destroyed in 1440. It was modified several times over the following centuries to suit the needs of its successive owners.
The building houses the International Centre of Graphic Arts, which shows printmaking work from artists around the world. The exhibitions change regularly, giving visitors a reason to return and discover new works each time.
The castle sits at the end of a long straight path through the park, making it easy to find on foot from the city. Parking is available nearby, and the paths leading to the entrance are accessible for visitors with limited mobility.
Four cast iron dog sculptures by Anton Fernkorn stand at the entrance, and a local legend claims their tongues are missing. Visitors who look closely can judge for themselves whether the story holds up.
