Planika Lodge at Triglav, Mountain lodge near Triglav summit, Slovenia.
Planika Lodge sits on the Ledine plains at 2401 meters elevation and can accommodate around 120 guests with dining space for about 80 people. The building serves as the final shelter before attempting to reach the Triglav peak.
The first structure at this location was Triglav Tempe, built in 1871. A few years later, the Maria Theresia Hut was constructed in 1877 by an Austrian-German hiking club.
The name Planika comes from the edelweiss flower that grows in high mountain regions. For many Slovenians, reaching this lodge represents an important personal milestone on the path to the Triglav summit.
The lodge is reachable from five different valley routes, with paths from Krma Valley, Pokljuka, and Blato Pasture being the most common and taking about five hours. It makes sense to time your arrival for late afternoon so you reach the shelter before dark.
From the lodge, two different routes lead to the Triglav peak, allowing hikers to choose paths with lighter traffic depending on the time of day. This flexibility helps many visitors avoid crowds on good weather days.
