Dominican Monastery of Ptuj, Medieval monastery in Ptuj, Slovenia
The Dominican Monastery combines Gothic and Baroque architectural elements, featuring a cloister, chapter house, refectory, and stone-carved details throughout the complex.
Methildis, widow of Friedrich III of Ptuj, established the monastery in 1230 with support from Archbishop of Salzburg Eberhard II who granted privileges.
The monastery received donations from noble families and townsmen, developing into a significant artistic complex that holds equal status with major European monuments.
The monastery functions as a congress and cultural center, opening its doors to visitors from April through September, Tuesday to Sunday between 10 AM and 6 PM.
The building underwent multiple transformations, including military barracks and hospital, leading to the division of its church into three vertical floors with new window layouts.
