Abbasiyyin Stadium is a large sports facility in Damascus designed to accommodate around 30,000 spectators in its stands. The structure features an open field with surrounding seating areas and sits along An Nassirah Avenue in the city center.
The stadium opened in 1957 and served as a major venue for regional sports events in the decades that followed. It underwent significant upgrades in 1976 to accommodate larger competitions and sporting gatherings.
Abbasiyyin Stadium marked a significant religious moment when Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass there on May 6, 2001.
The stadium is located on a main thoroughfare and remains accessible through various transportation routes. Its position connects easily to surrounding neighborhoods through several key roads.
Since 2013, the structure has remained inactive due to extensive damage from regional conflicts and subsequent military utilization.
