The Ar-Rahman Mosque is a modern place of worship in northwestern Aleppo featuring a large central dome and six minarets, two of which are notably tall with four shorter rectangular towers. The layout combines a spacious prayer hall with adjoining areas for religious functions and gatherings.
Construction began in 1983 and was completed in 1994, marking a new phase in Aleppo's architectural history. The project reflected the city's religious and urban development during the later decades of the 20th century.
The exterior walls display stone carvings shaped like Quran pages, with verses from the Ar-Rahman sura written in traditional Arabic calligraphy. This design choice makes religious text part of the building itself.
Access is available from King Faisal Street, and visitors should be aware that the prayer times affect the use of interior spaces. Outside of these times, the outdoor areas and courtyards tend to be quieter, making them easier to explore.
The design blends early Umayyad style elements with contemporary architecture, which is uncommon in modern Syrian mosques. This combination appears in geometric patterns and ornamental details that merge traditional and modern design language.
