Great Mosque of al-Nuri

The Great Mosque of al-Nuri is a religious structure in central Homs featuring a distinctive square minaret topped with an octagonal collar. Its interior displays fine carvings on the prayer pulpit and retains columns from earlier periods.

The site originated as a pagan temple dedicated to the deity El-Gabal before being converted into a Byzantine church. Following Muslim conquest, the structure was transformed into a mosque.
