Saint George's Monastery

The monastery spans 6,000 square meters with Byzantine stone construction, featuring a triple-arched entrance and two central supporting columns of ancient origin.

Established in the fifth century during Byzantine Emperor Justinian I's reign, the monastery underwent reconstruction in 1857 while maintaining original architectural elements.

The wooden iconostasis inside the church displays painted icons depicting scenes from Christ's life, complemented by a thirteenth-century chapel beneath the courtyard.

The monastery receives numerous visitors during two annual religious celebrations: Saint George's Day on May 6 and the Holy Cross feast on September 14.

The monastery preserves a manuscript written by Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab from 635 AD, addressing relations between Muslim and Christian communities.
