Phayao Lake is a large freshwater body shaped like a half-moon that sprawls across the province in northern Thailand, fed by water from nearby rivers. The water remains shallow throughout, making it a gentle setting for both recreation and the traditional fishing that happens here.
In 1935, a dam was built on one of the rivers to manage water flow, which merged several smaller water bodies into what you see today. This change transformed the landscape and created the conditions for both nature and human activity to flourish here.
