Wat Phuthathiwat

Wat Phuthathiwat, Buddhist temple in Betong, Thailand

Wat Phuthathiwat sits on a hilltop with several golden spires and displays modern Srivijaya architectural features with marble-tiled surfaces throughout the structure. The temple complex contains multiple prayer halls, meditation spaces, and ceremonial areas for visitors to explore.

The temple was completed in 1953 as a monument honoring the birthday of Thailand's reigning Queen at that time. This building project represented an important religious endeavor for the Betong community.

The interior walls display detailed tapestries showing Buddhist monks and Thai people in traditional clothing, which tell visual stories about local customs and daily life practices.

The site requires respectful clothing out of consideration for its religious purpose, with accessible entrances and plenty of space to explore. Visitors should move slowly and be aware that certain areas may be reserved for prayers.

The building features stained glass windows with geometric patterns, floral designs, and animal motifs rather than the religious figures typically seen in temples. These glass windows create a more modern approach to the interior decoration.
