Tokat, Provincial capital in Black Sea region, Turkey.

Located at the meeting point of Tokat River and Yesilirmak River, the city sits at 623 meters elevation amid mountains and valleys.

The settlement dates back to Hittite times and later became a stronghold of King Mithradates VI before falling under Ottoman control in 1392.

The Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University, established in 1992, functions as the central educational institution, influencing the intellectual development of the region.
