Bakırköy

Bakırköy is a municipal district on Istanbul's European side, situated between a major highway and the Sea of Marmara. It combines commercial zones, residential neighborhoods, and waterfront paths that together create a diverse urban landscape.

The district was once called Hebdomon during Byzantine times and functioned as a military center. Roman and Byzantine emperors were formally recognized here through ceremonies involving army acclamation.

Freedom Square serves as a central meeting place where local life unfolds throughout the day. Ebuzziya Street connects to waterfront eateries and tea houses where traditional Turkish customs remain part of everyday routines.

The area offers various transport options including minibuses, trains, and ferries for getting around. Several major shopping centers are scattered throughout the district for shopping and leisure.

Turkish Airlines headquarters is located in the Yeşilköy neighborhood within the district. The Veliefendi Race Course stands as one of the largest horse racing venues and draws visitors from across the city.
