Nur Mountains, Mountain range in southern Turkey.
The Nur Mountains are a mountain range in southern Hatay running parallel to the Mediterranean coast. The ridges reach nearly 2,240 meters in elevation, with Bozdağ Dağı serving as the highest peak.
The region became a center of Byzantine monasticism in the 4th century when numerous monasteries were established among its slopes. This reputation as a holy land rivaled other major monastic centers of that era.
The mountains have long been home to communities whose way of life follows the rhythm of the steep terrain and seasonal changes. Herding and farming traditions here are woven into daily routines that shift with the seasons and elevation.
Two passes, Belen and Bahçe, cut through the range and connect the coastal areas with inland regions. Visitors should note that accessibility can be affected by weather conditions, especially during snowy winter months.
The bedrock beneath these mountains holds deposits of silver, copper, lignite, zinc, iron, and arsenic that have been extracted for generations. These mineral resources have provided economic importance to the region for decades.
