Cape Gelidonya, Coastal promontory and Bronze Age shipwreck site in Antalya Province, Turkey.
The cape extends into the Mediterranean Sea from the Taurus Mountains, featuring steep cliffs and a lighthouse positioned 227 meters above sea level.
A merchant vessel containing copper ingots, pottery, and trading weights sank near the cape around 1200 BCE, marking an important archaeological discovery.
The name Gelidonya derives from ancient Greek Chelidonia, reflecting the historical maritime connections between different Mediterranean civilizations.
Visitors can reach the lighthouse by following a 6-kilometer trail from Korsan Bay, with the hike taking approximately 45 minutes each direction.
The underwater site at Cape Gelidonya represents one of the earliest scientific underwater archaeological excavations, conducted in 1960 by Peter Throckmorton.
