St. George Church, Bulgarian Orthodox church in Edirne, Turkey
The church stands with a basilica layout, featuring a semi-open narthex, main aisle, apse, and two galleries above the entrance section.
Governor Rauf Pasha obtained permission from Sultan Abdul Hamid II to construct the church, which opened its doors on April 23, 1880.
The interior displays an intricate iconostasis separating the nave from the sanctuary, along with a bishop's throne and traditional Bulgarian religious artifacts.
The church maintains regular operating hours and houses a collection of Bulgarian cultural items, including traditional clothing and literature in its library.
After falling into disrepair during the 1940s, the church underwent a complete renovation costing 4 million Turkish liras before reopening in 2004.
