Kadyanda

Kadyanda is an ancient city set within a pinewood forest near Fethiye, featuring city walls, a stadium, an agora, a Hellenistic theatre, Roman baths, and several temples. The structures spread across the hilly terrain and display architectural styles from different historical periods.

The settlement began around 3000 BCE and developed structures from the 5th century BCE through the Roman period before being abandoned in the 4th century CE. This long history shows how the site was occupied by successive cultures and powers.

The settlement was known as Kadawanti in the Lycian language, and its stone inscriptions reflect the ancient civilization that flourished in this region. Visitors today can spot these inscribed monuments scattered through the wooded landscape.

The site is located about 24 kilometers northeast of Fethiye near Üzümlü village and is reached by forest paths. Sturdy footwear is important since the terrain is uneven and the paths wind through wooded hillside areas.

The site contains deep cisterns and underground chambers scattered across the hillside with views overlooking the Xanthos Valley and Fethiye Plain. These hidden water storage systems show the ingenuity ancient inhabitants used to manage water in this region.
