Lake Nazik

Lake Nazik is a freshwater lake in the Ahlat district of Bitlis Province, nestled at high elevation in Turkey's mountainous eastern region. The body of water is surrounded by rocky slopes that form natural boundaries around its basin.

The lake was created thousands of years ago when lava flows from the Bilican Mountains formed a natural barrier across the valley. This geological process shaped the basin that holds the water today.

The name of the lake appears in multiple languages, including Turkish, Armenian, and Kurdish, reflecting the diverse linguistic heritage of eastern Turkey.

The most accessible shore areas are located along the southeastern side of the lake. Travel time from nearby towns should be factored in, as the route passes through rural terrain.

The lake is fed by underground springs that continuously supply fresh water to the basin. These hidden springs help maintain water levels despite the dry regional climate.
