Lake Akdoğan

Lake Akdoğan is a volcanic lake in the eastern mountains that spans across several square kilometers and reaches depths of more than 20 meters. The water sits at about 2,150 meters elevation, surrounded by steep mountain terrain.

A fortress once stood in the surrounding mountains and served as a strategic location until it lost importance in the middle of the 18th century. This castle shows how significant the mountain region was for rulers in earlier times.

Local communities refer to this lake by multiple names that reflect the region's diverse populations. These different designations show how various groups have named and connected with this mountain water.

The water freezes during winter months and allows for ice activities, while warmer seasons invite fishing and water-based recreation. Visitors should prepare for variable mountain weather and changing conditions throughout the year.

The lake system actually consists of two separate lakes divided by a narrow strip of land and sitting at different elevations. This unusual arrangement makes the area geologically distinctive.
