Pangaltı Catholic Cemetery, Catholic cemetery in Feriköy district, Turkey
The Pangaltı Catholic Cemetery extends across six squares with alleys named after saints, featuring numerous stone monuments and family mausoleums in its western section.
Established in 1863 following Sultan Abdülmecid I's decree, the cemetery replaced an older burial ground in Pera to accommodate Istanbul's growing urban development needs.
The cemetery contains graves of multiple Catholic communities, including Levantine, Greek, Armenian, Syrian, Chaldean, and Melkite groups, reflecting Istanbul's religious diversity.
Located 3 kilometers north of Taksim Square, the cemetery maintains records of burials dating back to the 19th century for genealogical research purposes.
The cemetery's ossuary incorporates gravestones from previous burial grounds of the 1850s, preserving elements of earlier memorial structures within its walls.
