Monastery of Mor Augin

The monastery sits at an elevation of 874 meters, featuring multiple stone buildings connected by pathways across the mountainside slopes.

Saint Augin established this religious center in the fourth century with seventy disciples after traveling from Egypt to spread Christianity in Mesopotamia.

The monastery shifted from the Assyrian Church of the East to the Syriac Orthodox Church in the seventeenth century, marking a major transformation.

Visitors need to arrange transportation from Nusaybin to reach this remote location, which requires a 40-kilometer journey through mountainous terrain.

The cave beneath the southern altar contains the preserved relics of Saint Augin, who passed away in 363.
